I remember being asked in my job interview: "When are you planning to leave our company?" (It seems they were pretty much impressed by my 'Tell us something about yourself' answer). As spontaneous as I was in convincing them how this company was going to be my holy abode..at the back of my mind, I was duly convinced that I would not be joining it in the first place! Call it arrogance but I had a certain kind of unshakable belief in my intentions... But as Sarah Kay says:
"This life will hit you hard in the face, wait for you to get back up just so it can kick you in the stomach. But getting the wind knocked out of you is the only way to remind your lungs how much they love the taste of air!"
There is something very intoxicating about this woman's poetry. You'll experience everything that she has written sooner or later in your life...
Anyway back to my story: So life did hit hard!!! Harder than the force I could Garner to fight it back. And that was when I realized that "acceptance" works best when you have lost control of the situation. But mind you... ACCEPTANCE and not SUCCUMBENCE(if that's even a word.. anyway you get what I mean)
Acceptance is important because it's crucial to the societal fabric. You might hate it when your roommate gets homesick and you have to act all 'mommy-like' to make her sleep peacefully...You might hate it when even the business people refrain from speaking in the business language and go all chatty in their local lingo...you might hate it when you have to bear with a nonsensical incident that your colleague iterates at full length (completely oblivious to your disinterest in the topic which by the way was clearly visible on your face!!),you might hate it when the guy on the next seat won't stop boasting about his excellent track record while the 'English language sulks in silence!'... You might absolutely hate it when you finally meet someone from your own land and the guy doesn't stop flirting!!! And that is not IT! You really don't want me to even get started on the food and conservatism in the region.
You might not like any of these and yet you don't "react"! You put up a nice smiley face and show up for the circus every day :)
As they say:
"Don't get upset with people or situations, both are powerless without your reaction"
So you guys continue doing whatever you are...while I sit here with my magic wand, quietly sucking the potency out of these earthly situations..
Adios!

To be true, I liked the word SUCCUMBENCE.
ReplyDeletePS- Situations might develop even without the reaction. And maybe, no reaction is also a reaction.
Absolutely... that's one reaction Chemistry doesn't have an equation of!! Forgive me for that one ;) Thanks for dropping by :*
